Explaning the Sun Set!

By Abdalla | September 22, 2009

First of all I want to say Eid Mubarak to all you guys who are muslim and celebrated this day. I hope you have had a great feast and enjoyed the day with your friends and family. I know I did :)

I see that readership has gone down (a lot actually) but that is OK. I intend on changing many things including our theme but that’s a story for another time.

Today I am here to re-energize, awaken, restart, this blog. You see, traveling all over, studying abroad, meeting new people, making new friends, learning a new language has left me with little or no time to enjoy myself. I usually enjoy publishing articles online, whether it be on my own network of websites or as a freelance (paid) project for a company. To be able to entertain or inform a general public of all races, color, religion, heights and weight leaves me with a “good inside” feeling. So to cut a long story short, I’m back and hopefully this time for good!

So what have I been doing?

Well nothing special to be honest. University closed around the 20th of June and from then on I have just been traveling domestically within Egypt, exploring and enjoying various sights and locations. There is nothing that beats Para-Gliding over the sea in Sharm El-Sheikh or quad biking on the deserts leading to mount Sinai. Although, I must say the banana boat riding and water skiing was just as amazing, however, clearly at number 1 – well for me anyways- has to be the snorkeling.

All in all, sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling…. – there is not a better way to spend a day in the Egyptian sun! Escaping the desert for a day of relaxation around the protected white sandy Tiran Island. Crystal clear blue water, lagoons and colorful coral reefs are there just waiting to be explored around Tiran Island, located north east of Sharm El Sheikh in the Gulf of Aqaba.

Watching the sun set…

One word, amazing. There is no where you would not want to be come maghrib (which means sunset).

Its as if the colors and intensity of the light is just enough to calm you. The sun is like a great big romantic, inspirational fire in the sky. It would be as if a powerful symphony was quieting down, becoming more emotional and beautiful as it dies down…… It’s like the comforting warmth of a sweet embrace, stilling your heart and causing your breath to hold for the slightest of moments as the beauty of it collects in a bag of mixed emotions, leaving you to feel a true sense of joy in the end…Its rays seem friendly. They remind me of an old friend waving goodbye. You know he/she is leaving but you are filled with joy as you know they are coming back.

Sunset in Sharm el Sheikh

I found myself going every night, around 8.30pm (was in summer) wondering, just staring, deeply reflecting, pondering and all alone. Why? I do not know. But one thing I definitely concluded with is that one should enjoy this spectacular sight with someone special because its truly something to be shared. Loved ones, whether it be family or friends or your special someone.

Even with our/my religion Islam, the sun has a presence. It is after all what keeps us alive (by the grace of Allah, under his very maintenance!) is it not? Below I have attached the very small chapter in the quran entitled “The Sun” with its English translation.

I hope you too can share a special sunset somewhere with a special someone.

P.S I think I may have found my “special someone” but THAT’S a story for another time. :)

Until then, keep it real folks and happy holidays, Eid that is!
